US president Barack Obama is coming under increased pressure to install solar panels on the White House.
This month will see a campaign group travelling to Washington to give Obama a solar panel which was installed on the White House between 1979 and 1986 when the Jimmy Carter administration was in power.
The group from Unity College will be accompanied by environmental author and activist Bill McKibben. Speaking on the Late Show with David Letterman earlier this week, McKibben said: "Solar panels on the White House will remind every visitor to Washington that every roof in America should have solar panels for electricity and hot water on them. "
The president's panels will do as much good as the wonderful organic garden that the first lady planted on the South Lawn." McKibben is challenging Obama to install solar panels on October 10th as part of the 10/10/10 Global Work Party Day which aims to encourage millions of people across the globe to work on climate solutions. Last week, it was reported that solar panels will be installed on the roof of Clarence House, the official residence of the Prince of Wales.
